Field Notes: Tipping the Scales
Mindset isn't enough. Dr. Sarb Johal introduces a new project on building physical and financial capacity for a stronger second half of life. Read the Field Note
I’ve spent the last few years looking outward—reviewing technology, traveling, and capturing the world through a lens on @TheTechPacker.
But recently, the focus has shifted.
The Second Act
As I navigate my 50s—as a business owner and an author—I’ve found myself thinking less about the tools I use, and more about the capacity I need to keep using them.
I realized that mindset isn't enough.
To truly enjoy the second half of life, you need capacity.
- You need the physical capacity to maintain your autonomy and keep moving through the world on your own terms.
- You need the financial capacity to buy back your time and attention.
- You need the mental capacity to adapt to a changing identity in a changing world.
A Return to Roots
Before I was a creator, I spent 30 years in psychology. I hold two doctorates in the field and wrote books like Finding Calm and Steady to help people navigate chaos.
Now, I want to apply that background to a new challenge: Aging with intent.
Introducing: Dr Sarb (Stay Strong. Live Smart)
This week, I’m launching a new project. It’s a new media vertical dedicated to designing a stronger second half of life.
I am not setting myself up as a guru. I am simply a practitioner, practicing.
I am taking the clinical evidence regarding health and wealth—the framework—and adapting it to the reality of my life.
Sometimes that process is clean and precise. Sometimes it is messy and blurry. But the goal is always the same: finding what fits, what sticks, and what actually builds a life of choice.
I’ll be documenting these adaptations in real-time. Expect vertical vlogs, photo essays, and incidental travel notes covering:
- Physiology: It’s not just about the gym. It’s about the magic of walking and incidental activity. It’s about smarter nutrition—upping protein, managing appetite, and understanding hormonal balance. I’m exploring how we stop that slow, gathering weight gain of aging and simply tip the scales in our favour—in more ways than one.
- Wealth: The strategies I’m using to future-proof my finances and design a lifestyle of autonomy.
- Life: The real-world work of trying to stay strong and live smart.
The Work Begins
I’m living the research. You are welcome to watch, take what resonates, and leave the rest.
See you in the field.
