On the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and implications for NZ
The UN recently agreed a framework for the next 30 years for disaster risk reduction, known as the Sendai Framework for DRR - the agreement was reached at a conference in Sendai, Japan earlier this year. At the time, I was in the middle of a self-commitment to only travel overseas once for work for a 12 month period, so I was not able to make the meeting. However, after the agreement was reached, the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management in New Zealand invited me to be part of a programme over a day to give out views on what needed to happen in NZ to start to bring this framework to bear on our of disaster-related activities. You can see the programme here - all the videos for all the speakers have been archived and available for the public. If you're into this kind of thing, it really is worth a look. Below, you can see a direct link to the Panel session I was speaking in - Societal Risks and Resilience.
